If it were up to your dog, you’d never be let out of their sight. Their favorite hobbies include fetch, jogging, and stalking you. Fortunately, living in Longmont makes it easy to take your dog practically everywhere. With so many pet-friendly activities nearby, there are plenty of ways to throw your dog a bone, including visiting the following:
Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain rests on the eastern-side of the foothills. The trails are short and relatively easy, filled with rocky terrain that offers Fido an exciting reprieve from flat and level land. Your pooch must stay on a leash at all times, partly due to the abundance of wildlife. The area is known for its stunning views, as well…something your dog might not care about, but you will!
The 3.5-mile loop at McIntosh Lake will take a little over an hour for you and your dog to complete. The trail is open year-round and very popular among locals and visitors, so going at off-times may help you avoid the crowds. The path is well-maintained and welcoming to all levels of skill. Don’t worry if your cocker spaniel is a couch potato; he’ll do just fine.
Wibby Brewing features a dog-friendly taproom that meshes German beer and American brewing methods. To stay on theme, bring along your German shepherd or American bulldog. Any other breed is welcome, too. ;) As long as your pooch is well-behaved, they’re welcome on site; the only growlers allowed are the ones the brewery sells.
Blue Skies Park in southwest Longmont is an 11-acre park that features a playground, a roller hockey rink, a skate park, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, and multi-use green spaces. It pays homage to aviation with its plane-themed equipment and educational images. This probably won’t impress your pooch, but the fenced dog run might. Your pet can frolic here leash-free.
Union Reservoir, located seven miles west of I-25, is the ideal place to take any dog that loves the water. It comes complete with a dog beach where your whippet can wade, your schnauzer can splash, and your yellow lab can get a tan. Dogs are allowed in other areas of the reservoir, as well, although they must be leashed outside of their designated swim spot.
Pet-friendly activities allow your dog to run, romp, and roam. Take them on regular outings and give them a chance to fall even more in love with you than they already are.
