There’s nothing like a long winter to truly make us thankful for spring! This winter was particularly snowy and a much-needed blessing for the mountains, rivers, and forests, but even better for the spring time blooms and buds. The Longmont Saturday Farmers market is back, providing Boulder County area residents with fresh produce, local goods, and a great weekend activity.
The Longmont Farmer’s market takes place each Saturday from April 6 to November 23. Vendors open their booths at 8 am and live music starts at 10 am. Artisan shows take place in tandem with the Longmont Farmers Market, occurring every fourth Saturday. The festivities run through 1 pm, so you’ve got plenty of time to get in a morning hike, then swing by to stock up on fresh, local produce for the upcoming week.
The Boulder County Fairgrounds host the Saturday farmers market. There’s plenty of parking, picnic areas, and additional activities occurring throughout the fairgrounds — bring the whole family along for an entertaining day! On May 4, Cowboy Mounted Shooting takes place in conjunction with the market, so arrive early to experience all of Longmont’s agrarian culture.
If you’re new to Longmont, you might be surprised to learn that much of the surrounding area is rural farm and ranch land. Lucky for us, we get to reap the rewards of fresh produce, sustainably raised livestock, and consciously sourced dairy. Instead of shopping at the grocery store for these often-imported items, we have the opportunity to support our next door neighbors, minimize waste, and enjoy goods that are seasonal and ripened by nature.
This year, the Longmont Farmers Market hosts a wide variety of vendors. Aspen Moon Organic Biodynamic Farm is right down the street in Hygiene and is 100% natural and bee friendly. Boulder Beef LLC is another fantastic, local company that raises cattle for beef. These ranchers treat their pasture-raised livestock with the utmost respect and refrain from giving their cows animal byproducts, hormones, or steroids of any kind.
Come out on Saturdays to meet, support and learn from vendors of all kinds. Flower growers, beekeepers, sheep herders and more bring their products to market each Saturday to supply the community with fresh, local, and sustainable product.
