Wanting to shake up your yoga practice but not sure where to start? Try changing up the scenery with Longmont’s free yoga in the park. Enjoy crisp late summer evenings and take the opportunity to decompress and destress in the outdoors. Here’s what to know about this summer series.
Yoga in the park takes place at the southwest corner of ThompsonPark, in downtown Longmont on every Monday, from 5:30 – 6:30pm. The series started June 21st and will run until September 6th.
This community class seeks to invite yoga practitioners of all levels to participate in a free practice. Yoga can be unaffordable for many, but this class, hosted by Elevated Yoga Studios, occurs each Monday night and invites everyone to join. Bring a mat, towel, and water to take full advantage of this unique opportunity. Caring instructors lead participants through gentle poses, offering alterations depending on skill level. Class will only be canceled if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Thompson Park was named after Elizabeth Rowell Thompson, who was deemed “the founder of Longmont” by a Boston Globe reporter in 1899. Rowell Thompson was a philanthropist who helped city residents in a variety of ways, including donating books and art prints. In the late 1800’s, Longmont’s residents planted trees in the park and hauled buckets of water up from the St. Vrain to keep them alive. Many of the trees still stand today.
After the free yoga class, gather some friends or family and grill out at one of Thompson Park’s picnic areas. Need something to do with the kiddos while you get your pigeon pose on? Bring them along and set them loose on the exciting playground at this 4.2-acre park.
Upon opening its doors in 2016, Elevated Yoga Studio sought to create an inviting yet intimate space in which patrons could expand upon their practice in both the physical and mental realms.
