Springtime in Colorado is known for many things: Rockies baseball, beautiful hikes, patio dining, and warm weather…peppered with the random blizzard. Of course, spring is also when festivals start to pop up, and there’s plenty to choose from. If you’re looking for something new and different (or a tried-and-true favorite), consider stopping by one of the following:
Estes Park Bigfoot Days is an outdoor festival that’s truly out of the box. Celebrating Bigfoot, it features Bigfoot celebrities, an ax-throwing contest, food and drinks, live music, Bigfoot folklore, and a Bigfoot calling contest. It takes place on April 19th and 20th, and don’t worry, you don’t need to be a true believer to attend.
The Bluebird Music Festival takes place April 20th and 21st at the Macky Auditorium on the CU campus. It’s its sixth year, this festival showcases three separate events over the two days, as well as hours and hours of performances. The Strings and Stories session, which takes place on Sunday afternoon, puts more of a narrative twist on toe-tapping tunes.
The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival returns to Pearl Street on April 28th. Designed for kids who like the mystical and magical, this festival features plenty of activities, food and drink options, shows, and more. It’s only four hours long, which might not be lengthy enough for your kids, but will probably be plenty long for you.
The Cinco De Mayo Festival is an annual festival that transforms Civic City Park into a celebration of traditional Mexican music, art, food, dancing, showcases, crafts, and more. This year celebrates the event’s 35th anniversary and takes place on May 4th and 5th.
While technically a spring event, the Boulder Creek Festival feels a lot like summer. Taking place along Boulder Creek on Memorial Day Weekend (May 25th to 27th), this annual tradition invites vendors who sell everything from handcrafted jewelry, eats and treats, and clothing, to art, toys, wellness treatments, windows, home goods, and more. Attendees can also enjoy live music, a beer garden, carnival rides, and a rubber duck race.
Whether you’re interested in exploring the foods and flavors of the region, entertaining your children, spending time in the sunshine, or just experiencing something new, taking part in one of the many local spring events is the perfect way to spring into the season on a festive foot.
